Climbing : Exit 38, Peannacle Point/Bob's Area/Chainsaw Wall, June 18, 2004

Dan, Michelle, and I hiked all the way up the Mt. Washington trail at Exit 38 on a fine early summer day. Other people had the same idea, including the Humidor Brothers, who puffed on their stogies after every climb. The nicotine didn't help them send the sickness, though, as they flailed and hangdogged in a cloud of smoke. We didn't have to wait long for most climbs, despite the crowds, and got in five pitches:

  • Peanut Brittle: awkward and short, one star
  • Killer Bob: cool mantel move
  • Gallivant: fun face climbing with an awkward clip
  • some bolted crack/arete/corner thing next to Gallivant
  • Bikini Girls with Chainsaws (?): a stiff little climb with an interesting entrance move to a ramp/corner with a finger crack

Dan and I debated the ethics and aesthetic value of the three bolts right next to cam placements on one of the routes and then frowned at the squeeze job next to Stihl Fingers at Chainsaw Wall. Stihl Fingers looks like an awesome climb and probably a good one to try for your first 12a.

The hike down was long, especially when my sprained toe (don't laugh) started acting up, but we were rewarded with milkshakes in North Bend.
